You won the lottery January of 2017. You won big and bought the bankrupt Manor F1 team. The team is currently 10th in points in front of McLaren who is in 11th with no points. Sauber just decided it will not take Honda’s engines and money for 2018. Honda comes to you desperate for another team for more data to try and save their partnership with McLaren. Do you take the Honda money and the worst engines for 2018 moving away from the best eninges in 2017 with Mercedes?

Which one has the highest net revenue towards the team? How much does it cost to break your contract with Mercedes? How much money is Honda bringing to the table? What do their plans look like to get better reliability and more hp?

If I were in it for the long haul, and it seemed Honda was too, I could see it being a worthy investment. The problem the last few years was that Mercedes just got such a ridiculous head start with the current engine formula, whereas Honda was starting late and with zero current experience. If I could sign a long term contract with Honda that stipulated that they attempt to pull a Mercedes the next time theres a major formula change, then I could get in on the ground floor (hopefully at huge discount) with a future powerhouse. It would totally be worth it. A gamble, but if you’re a back marker with big aspirations you might as well shoot the moon.

I agree. I would sign a long term deal with Honda, expecting to be in last for 2018. I’d try and wrangle a 4-5 year deal with Honda paying every year, so even if the engines are good or bad the team is financially safe.

Well they plan to improve their engines... Manor had the best engine but a poor chasis. Sauber has a known engine (2016 Ferrari) and a chasis good enough for 5 points right now only beating McLaren who has 2 points, but in this senario they are also ahead of your team. Sauber decided they are better off without Honda.

I don’t want my team to ever win any car races. I just want my drivers to pedal around in the back of the field year after year, decade after decade if I can earn 4% profit.
